EEX Press Release - EEX re-appointed as French Power Guarantees of Origin registry provider

Leipzig/Paris, 4 October 2024 – The European Energy Exchange (EEX) has been re-appointed by the French Ministry of Ecological Transition, Energy, Climate and Risk Prevention to continue offering registry and auctioning services for power Guarantees of Origin (GOs) for a further term of five years, starting from 4 October 2024.

Aude Filippi, Director Business Development Gas & Sustainability Markets, comments: “Guarantees of Origin are cornerstones for the energy transition, enabling the transparent tracking of origin of renewable energies. We are committed to supporting the transition and honoured that the French Ministry put their trust in our services for another five years.

Since 2013, EEX has been the issuing body for power GOs in France, operating associated primary auctions since 2019. In 2023, EEX was also appointed as issuing body for biogas GOs in France, with primary auctions to follow shortly. For both power and biogas GO registry services in France, EEX will start using G-REX, a state-of-the-art platform for registrities, enabling API connection and automatic handling of certificates. G-REX was developed by Grexel, the leading registry provider in Europe and a wholly owned subsidiary of EEX.

GOs provide transparent tracking of origins of renewable energy within the EU, including sources for renewable electricity, biogas and hydrogen. In addition, registries provide a standardised, transparent and efficient energy certification scheme, in line with European legislation, that companies can use in their decarbonisation efforts.

EEX Group is active across the entire value chain, from providing unique services to issuing bodies across Europe to offering trading solutions for GOs. In addition to the registry services, EEX recently launched GO Futures contracts to improve price transparency and hedging instruments on this market with standardised cleared contracts, while EPEX SPOT, another EEX Group company, offers pan-European power spot GO auctions on a monthly basis.

The European Energy Exchange (EEX) is a leading energy exchange which builds secure, successful and sustainable commodity markets worldwide – together with its customers. As part of EEX Group, a group of companies serving international commodity markets, it offers contracts on power, natural gas and emission allowances as well as freight and agricultural products. EEX also provides registry services as well as auctions for Guarantees of Origin, on behalf of the French State.
