ECC Press Release - ECC: Ralf Prinzler assumes position of Chief Risk Officer

Leipzig, 7 January 2025 - Effective from 1 January 2025, Dr Ralf Prinzler has assumed the position of Chief Risk Officer (CRO) at European Commodity Clearing (ECC). As CRO, Ralf will be responsible to oversee all risk management-related operations at the clearing house, as well as spearhead the transitioning of ECC’s derivatives margining model to a portfolio-based Value-at-Risk (VaR) approach.

Ralf joined ECC in July 2024 as Director Risk Management. Prior to this, he spent 22 years at the German development bank KfW, where he held multiple positions in the field of risk management, most recently as Head of Risk Controlling.

Dr Ralf Prinzler comments: “I’m excited to take on my new role as CRO. Over the past six months, I’ve thoroughly immersed myself in the operations of ECC and I have a clear understanding on where the company is heading. Risk management is one of the most important aspects in clearing energy and commodity contracts and I believe that ECC already has a strong position as a clearing house.

Dr Tobias Paulun adds: “We are delighted about Ralf taking up the position of CRO at ECC. His extensive experience is invaluable for the development of our overall risk strategy and the management of ongoing projects, such as the implementation of the new VaR approach. I’m convinced that with Ralf we will strengthen ECC’s leading position as clearing house for energy and commodity transactions in Europe.
